Karma:  1984 TaShing Baba 40

The TaShing Baba 40 was designed by Bob Perry.  Bob Perry has been on our boat and claimed that it is his favorite.  Our boat is pictured twice in his published book "Yacht Design According to Perry", and this book is among many that come with the boat purchase.  The Baba 40 is Long Keel which is completely encapsulated.  The vessel weighs in at 30,000 pounds, cutter-rigged, and below the waterline, her fiberglass hull is 1-1.5 inches thick.  She is a tank and she is very capable at achieving 8.5 knots cruising speed in perfect conditions, but typically we sail at 6.5 knots.  She is also self-sufficient, we have gone months with touching a dock, and we designed her to be that way.  She is very clean running, she carries only diesel for the engine and the cabin heater, and propane for the stove and BBQ.  No generator onboard as she earns her keep with 4 kilowatts of production from solar every sunny day and even more with the wind generator.  In 2025, we hauled Karma out, sandblasted her bottom, filled any blisters, added a CeRam-Kote CK426 barrier and then applied the Coppercoat.  Other than occasional cleaning, you will not have to do another bottom job for at least ten years. Karma will take you anywhere you want to go as long as it is at least 6 feet deep.  All the work we have done has been completed since 2023, mostly by me, a certified ABYC Master Technician and my wife Rochelle. Below is all the hard data, all the upgrades and new equipment we added to her.
